A 1912 oil-on-canvas portrait of the painter Pablo Picasso by Juan Gris (1887-1927). Gris here uses a Cubist approach to show Picasso from multiple perspectives, breaking up the standard portrait and reassembling the pieces to create an abstract representation of the subject. Picasso has represented Gris with various gemoetrical forms but these forms are all organsied along diagonal lines. (Art Institute of Chicago)
